“Does Puppy Training Make a Difference – The Evidence Suggests it Does!”
Puppy School: - Why?
From the age of 3 - 16 weeks a pup's brain is like a computer hard drive; they learn quickly and what they learn during this time is retained and shapes their future behavior. You and your puppy will learn about canine social skills, play biting, house training, distractions and sounds, visits to the vet, leadership skills, confidence building, aggression and lots more.
You as the owner/ handler will learn how to address the various problems that you may encounter when raising a new puppy. Puppy school teaches the pup what he/ she needs in order to grow up into a solid, trustworthy, obedient companion.
How old must the puppy be?
Your puppy may only begin puppy school once he/ she has had the 2nd set of vaccinations. Normally the puppy would be around 10 - 12 weeks old. Frankly - the sooner the better as long as the 2nd set of vaccinations have been done. We do this to ensure the safety of your puppy, and we check the vaccination records of the older dogs in the school too. Please feel free to verify this with your veterinarian. No puppies may begin puppy school without presentation of proof of vaccination.
How long is the course?
Puppy 1 is a 4-week course.
Puppy 2 is also a 4-week course
and immediately follows the Puppy 1 course. In Puppy 2 you will have fun taking
your puppy to the next level of training.
Positive reinforcement
and rewards will ensure a strong bonding experience between you and your puppy.
An informative Puppy Manual, an Iams (Eukanuba) Puppy Starter Pack, a
"Graduation" certificate and a student orientation class are included in the
P.D.T.C. puppy school course."

For dogs older than 6 months

We offer the following classes for dogs older than 6 months.
Beginner Obedience:
This is a one-month class. Class size is small to ensure a solid foundation for obedience training.
Level 1 Obedience:
Learn to perfect focus work, attention, on leash commands and heelwork.
Level 2 Obedience:
On/ Off leash obedience, retrieving and distance control.
Level 3 Obedience:
Off leash obedience, tracking, scent discrimination work, advanced distance control, direction training, mondeo ring.
A.K.C Canine Good Citizen - Training & Testing:
Our training and testing is conducted to the A.K.C (American Kennel Club) standard. This test is so comprehensive it forms part of the testing procedure for the Paws For People Therapy dogs.
When are classes held?

Saturday Morning: 8:30 – 9:30 – Level 2 Obedience Training (On/Off leash obedience, retrieve training and teaching distance control)
9:30 – 10:30 – Beginners Obedience Training (Learning how the leash works, teaching focus and basic commands)
10:30 – 11:30 – Level 3 Obedience Training (Off leash obedience, tracking, scent discrimination work, advanced distance control, direction control, distraction training, multi-tasking, advanced retrieve.) |

Saturday Afternoon: 2:00 – 3:30 – Puppy School Class)
4:00 – 5:00 – Level 1 Obedience (Puppies moving up from Puppy School) (Focus work, attention training, on leash commands, beginner retrieve training and heelwork.) |

For those people who really want their dogs trained but simply don’t have the time we offer limited private training classes. Dogs can be dropped off at school and collected when the class is over. One on-one-training is given by qualified instructors. Contact Lesley de Klerk for further details.
